for the 108th installment in the ever expanding planet rhythm catalog, a various artists effort has been planned with some of the label’s usuals and some exciting names we have had our eye on for a while now. for the a-side, arts label owner emmanual brings his much appreciated e100 to vinyl. previously released digitally through his own imprint, this cut has been sought after for a while now. second up is eindhoven native albert van abbe. albert has been making a lot of waves for a long time now and we’re very glad to welcome him to the prruk family. more to ignore 04 is a funked out piece of machine music that will definitely turn some heads. the b side is opening with elyas the hangman. the mysteryman that gained some infamy through his releases on modularz and olympian delivers a cutting edge techno work-out. closing down this va 12” is mendy. returning to prruk for the 2nd time, mendy has come up with elevation which is a chordy techno theme for peak hours.

volume number four of random numbers split series is released. a cross section of the best italian experimental artists, released in 5 volumes. each artist has been given the space of a single side c50 cassette, in which they could express their music freely, without compromise. volume 2 is entrusted to healing force project and massimo carozzi. this volume is dedicated to complex textures and mental voyages, soundscapes and rhythmic illusions. healing force project describes his work whit this words: “this session is my own and personal view of a hypothetical live that i would propose. made for the “embrace” series on sequencias (label from brooklyn), my goal was to start from an industrial groove with a sharp and rough step at the same time. during the listening, the primary elements gradually fade away, giving way to jazzy and broken rhythms structures. many samples, especially sax and trumpet, create sick textures and an apparent state of perpetual mental trip. “ massimo carozzi’s side consists of seventeen sound miniatures composed and assembled from recordings made between 2010 and 2016 in various parts of europe using a small portable modular system and a digital recorder. credits: mastered by francesco brini at spectrum mastering & vinyl artwork by emanuele luppino c+p 2017 random numbers

after a string of solo eps modularz returns with a wave of various artists releases pushing established and emerging producers laying down strong tracks made for the warehouse or the club. these releases are really getting the pick of the litter when it comes to techno. play these loud and often. tip

this album has been many years in the making. around 2005 we were gigging, playing hip hop breaks and supporting acts like krs-one and raekwon. we wrote a lot of our own material, but we never properly recorded it in a studio, we did however make lots of -one mic- recordings onto a mini-disk player. tom kept hold of all of these recordings and in 2011 send copies of everything to the rest of the band. a short list of 30 were chosen to record properly. a basic studio was booked, and recording began, initially it was pretty basic, just drums, bass & keys with guitars overdubbed the following day. with these foundation rhythm tracks tom went away and edited them, creating structure, extra layers and demo mixes. these demo mixes were used to send to mcs. it was decided to go with american mcs as the type of thing we listened to when we wrote a lot of our material was classic 90s hip hop. el da sensei & sadat x were the first to respond to our request, and soon features were flying through ever other week. we actually had enough material for 2 albums, but picked what we wanted to represent our first release and continued to develop the material, including adding session musicians for harps, brass, strings and cuts. we chose 4 tracks to create videos for and got the ball rolling with various video makers. the final year was spent mixing, sequencing and deciding on artwork. the title cinder hill is reference to where the band spent many afternoons practicing at john & joe’s parent’s house, their mum maggie passed away in 2016 and the album is dedicated to her for her endless support and love for the music.

dark entries and emotional rescue team up to further explore psychic tv’s acid house years. psychic tv was formed by genesis p-orridge and peter christopherson of throbbing gristle with alex fergusson of alternative tv in 1981. after various line up changes, the band shifted direction to dance oriented songs influenced by the house and techno scenes of detroit and chicago. by 1988 the group included dave ball of soft cell, fred giannelli of turning shrines and matthew best of carcrash international. during the summer of 1988 the group recorded a batch of songs at time square studios in london that would appear under the guise of various artists compilations jack the tab’ and ‘tekno acid beat’. the idea behind these ‘compilations of imaginary artists was creating a sense that a healthy acid house scene existed in the uk. virginia was the studio project of dave “mista luv” ball and then-wife virginia “gini” ball, a classical violinist who toured and recorded with siouxsie and the banshees and marc almond.

cheap present was formed in 2013 as a collaborative project between melbourne artists env and luis cl serving as an outlet for the pair to experiment outside of their main musical acts and subsequent genre limitations.
cheap present’s music is mostly recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs and draws sounds and influences from various sources. using old keyboards and samples mixed with digital high definition sounds, the duo create a mixture of raw elements from the techno and dance tradition with a nod to classical melodies and industrial music. each song features heavy drums to highlight the melodic playfulness of their bass, synth arrangements and humorous but expressive vocals and song titles. the anterior mini lp follows on from the duo’s wet garden cassette earlier in the year and presents a collection of material looking back from the group’s creation in 2013 to more recent output. the pair’s evolution is clearly on display on the this 12 inch, from initial jam based songs such as waterproofyouth and bergwasser, which have a spontaneous metallic edge, to new songs such as rooftops, which display a more meticulous and mature approach to production.

‘below the line’ inaugurates a fictional timeline of events set in a hypothetical future. a climate-related disaster acts as a catalyst for a complete overturn in society, the repercussions of which will be explored subsequently.
the british producer has become one of modern dance music’s most pioneering figures, having produced four full-length albums, various eps and contributed mix albums to renowned series such as dj kicks, fabric, and for berghain’s ostgut ton label over the last decade. donning the scb name in 2010, paul rose’s pseudonym for esoteric techno found home on labels like aus, nonplus and hotflush recordings, not to mention its own eponymous imprint.

on the spectrum does, new york avant-rock musicians che chen and robbie lee create three earthy and slow moving pieces, informed as much by various global folk traditions as they are by 20th century composition and improvisation.their ‘anything goes approach to improvising leads to a sonic document that sounds raw, intense and freshly exciting. a wild and shambolic brew sounding like nothing else.

poker flat label boss and genuine dance music legend steve bug teams up with langenberg for this excellent two track ep. langenberg has released an unfathomable number of dancefloor fillers under various monikers on labels such as drumpoet community, mule, ovum or styrax leaves and recently released his debut album central heated house on dessous. langenberg is also one half of the project ribn. chord cluster has summer anthem written all over deep yet euphoric, spacy yet danceable, and ultimately a deeply emotive piece of house music that will bring smiles to faces all year. the rhythm track is tight yet remains loose and funky, while the pads and synths dip into just the right amount of acid to keep the ravers lost in the moment. the teaze treads similar ground arpeggiated pulses lead the arrangement, while a chicago influenced groove brings a shuffle to proceedings the joy in the track is evident it s clear the guys were having a lot of fun in the studio.

having given us a taster of things to come back in september 2016, with the pressing matters single, the cyclist returns to hypercolour with a brand new, full length album. and as the title suggests, sapa inca delirium leans heavily on south american mysticism, not just musically, but in the visual imagery that the eleven-track album paints so well across its various tempos and rhythms. from the tropical burst of mood setting opener, go back to the steamy and pacey percussive flow of inhale/exhale which features regular collaborator tanaya harper on vocals, the cyclist’s fourth long player is crammed full of intriguing atmospheres and soundscapes. antiexist, with its down-tempo rolling snare fills and ethereal gregorian chanting segues effortlessly into a blind girl drinks ayawaska, a suitably discordant and hallucinogenic skit that ensures the album flows into the more rhythmic cuts like skateboarding in the jungle and mirrors (the second album cut to feature harper on vocals). even the traditional jazzier vibes of when we all break down featuring joni are kept rugged and boisterous, with heavyweight bending bass, choppy breakbeats and fx’d ambience amongst the smooth jazzy chords and sweet vocal delivery. sapa inca delirium is one of those albums that will reward on repeat listen, such is the diversity of style on show here, and the detailed and wide eyed curiosity offered up across the long players fifty three minutes.

* dom & roland’s label has gone from strength to strength from its conception in 2006. featuring collaborations by dom with other artists such as noisia, hive and amon tobin the label has continued to push sonic boundaries whilst staying true to it’s ethos of “not selling out”. it is currently in a “dubs from the dungeons” phase releasing sought after unreleased music from the 90’s from various accomplished artists every month on limited edition gold vinyl. * phoenix – dom ft technical itch a straight dancefloor dj smashout made from two of the featured artists most seminal tracks combined. dom & rolands thunder and technical itch’s reborn. nuf said! *tears in rain – dom & roland a futuristic roller from the “bladerunner” era. it perfectly captures the mood of the film. a big hitter at the metalheadz sessions in the 90’s this was smashed by doc scott and randall in many of their sets. again featuring a reworked alternating clean and distorted -flow break- and big 808 bass this style of production pioneered the way for dom’s later work. this turning point in dom’s history is now finally mastered and seeing it’s release on vinyl 20 years later.

fashion flesh is the solo-output moniker of john talaga, based in bay city, usa, whose music first came to our attention back in 2016 with the release of an excellent 7-inch on detroit s est. 83 records. he should have been in the radiophonic workshop, but he was in the wrong place, wrong decade. instead, withdrawn comes as his first full-length album and makes up for the perfect introduction to talaga s synthesis of original and plasticized melodic collages, birthed from the guts of hand built exotic electronics and various audio devices — built from one s own design and heavily modified beyond audible recognition or return. from torn memories of pleasant dreams to plasticine free jazz sculptures, wavey electro cuts squealing like rubber tyres and pop hallucinations, fashion flesh highlights the beauty of confusion and anxiety throughout the breathing and illusive meanderings of his tape manipulations and hard copy cut-ups.

somne debuts on just this. the italian producer, whose real name is federico maccherone, presents his first release of 2017 – a solo ep marrying the same ethereal, wide-angle synthesis and intricate drum programming that appears on standout work for boddika’s nonplus imprint and the afterlife label. more than ever, maccherone shows his range – rolling, meditative recordings sit comfortably alongside some more overtly dance floor material, with both approaches bound by the same high-end production values listeners and dj’s alike have come to expect from the somne project. in various ways, the ep offers a certain degree of insight into maccherone’s dual identity as a producer of both clinical, dance-floor fare as well as a cerebral, leftfield work – and in turn, how the artist draws together these two strands of creative endeavour to craft unique and profoundly emotive electronic music. nods to classic idm and ambient sit at the periphery of the recordings, although the main focus is on the propulsive, contemporary techno derivatives – from warping, half-time opener divided love, with its crisp, white noise washes and clinical use of distortion – through to endgame’s exacting, peak-time drive. and whilst the form shifts across the ep from half-time, polyrhythmic work to more direct 4x4 compositions – everything remains bound by the same exquisite, otherworldly atmosphere that touches on the grandiose whilst maintaining a gloriously introspective bent.

nick the record is one of the uk s most respected record dealers as well as a highly gifted dj of the underground disco, afro, soul, funk and house scene since the early 90s. for those who don t know he was 1/2 of soul ascendants that released some serious fela inspired house on nuphonic records in the late 90 s. he s currently enjoying a well deserved hype due to his heavy compilations on z records and various remixes. for his first release on gamm he goes all disco with two big reworks that are sure to get the heads moving. lifeforce theme is a tribute to the japan collective where he was resident dj for over 20 years. recordnition is a heavy percussion n philly disco burner that got that deep nyc disco feel all over it. nick definitely got the records.

we begin our history with the first full-length dada ques release, written and produced by the founder of the label, flaty. called 1 (one or album one), the release is timed with the launch of anwo / amonari-no-word which has been conceived and designed as a creative platform for own musical projects and various other art initiatives. album one presents a wide array of styles grinded and melted into one solid and breathing soundscape, it s electronic romanticism with advanced detail. available sept 15 2017 on heavyweight vinyl.

luc van acker is all except an obscure musician. already from his solo records in the early 80’s he has been building a name for himself as a multi-talented musician and performer. when you are in the middle of the night, you’ll see the revolting cocks. the session on this record is from 1981 and thus a very early piece of music in the discography of luc van acker. for this occasion he has performed with live electronics, a violin and various other gadgets and tools. the music must be seen as somewhere in between old style industrial music (thus experimental) and modern classical music. this live performance takes the listener from rhythmic to the sound of the sound. the session has been tranfered from the original tape and is edited and re-mastered to make it available for a new audience. the liner notes have been written by luc van acker himself.

rat life is back with more unheard material from the hidden bedroom studios of east germany. one day in metropia - is a project that was active around the year 2008 - operating out of the concrete suburbs of dresden. its main focus were live appearances in the citie s underground electronic music circle. just a few signals of its enormous creative output were published on various sound carriers to this day. so it was time to release some more of this large bulk of data that has been lurking on storage devices for years. rat life s operator credit 00 is proud to be allowed to contribute a remix version to this sonic document. have a nice day in metropia!

this is my best album for sure, says todd. we cant be exactly sure on that one, all three albums from todd bodine have been great. forms however, is perhaps the most complex and mature album that the berlin producer and dj has accomplished to date. and its also out with us! todd has worked at full speed over the last six months to bring us this fine piece of work. as a dj playing around the world and as a producer in the highest ranks of consistency, todd bodine has constantly developed as an artist. releases and remixes on respected labels, and collaborations with various artists have made him an internationally popular electronic musician. in 2007 he finally began to perform as a live act, and what club would better fit todds new live premiere than the panorama bar in berlin!? todd shows with forms, his innate knowledge of the two sides of electronic dance music. this is a meeting of peaktime euphoria with the relaxing bliss of the hazy morning light. a meeting of hypnotic natural rhythms and driving cut-up sounds. todd can impress you with dancefloor bombs and also with his sophisticated sound visions. the sound of detroit would probably be the best comparison.

industry veteran paolo martini is next to join the emerald city family with red rocks. bringing the funk, he delivers a solid two-track release with irresistible groove and dance-floor disco heat. paolo martini has been in the business for over 30 years, first releasing with gianni bini on various labels such as defected, strictly rhythm, universal, azuli and nervous. they soon established their own label ocean trax and handled remixes of kylie minogue and jamiroquai. paolo has also been testimonial for several clothing brands including diesel and adidas and also the rane mp2015 mixer. his following co-productions can be found on acclaimed labels such as hot creations, snatch!, moon harbour, 8bit, saved and cecille amongst many others. 2017 starts the beginning of a new adventure with a string of releases geared up under his new solo project.

it had been four years since juxtaposition, radians last record. chimeric is not a polished album. within the context it is raw, broken, even dark sometimes. steady, multiple rhythms, layered on top of each other disappear into chaos and turn back into discreet structures in the next moment. references of rock music, executed with the precision of a sequencer, mutated, restructured. a lot on this album is about control and the loss of control. the risk of failure. but chimeric is much more free. some of the longer pieces are composed of very different parts and different colours along a continuous timeline. they tend to evolve in a narrative form and are moving through various scenes and surroundings, which is also present in the spacial relationship between the instruments.

coalmine records is pleased to relaunch ‘land of the crooks,’ the collaborative extended play project from the late sean price and melbourne’s go to producer, m-phazes. the project finds the longtime underground legend lending his distinctive, brownsville-bred grimy vocals over phazes’ rich tracks full of dramatic pianos, rich bass-lines, swinging horns and hard drums. the a-side includes the main passes, comprised of four original tracks with the addition of the small professor remix for ”murdah type thinkin (feat. guilty simpson).” for this special edition rerelease, coalmine has also added the divided souls ent. & dj pain 1 remix of “land of the crooks,” which was only previously made available on the label’s remix compilation, ‘remineded,’ which first dropped back in january of 2015. the b-side includes the instrumental passes of all of the original tracks, as well as the small pro remix, in addition to the “crookapella,” which includes various scratch stems taken from the ep, in addition to various isolated drum sounds, sound effects, and acapella of the “land of the crooks” single. additional features on lotc include roc marciano, billy danze (of m.o.p.), maffew ragazino, loudmouf choir and the dilated junky, dj babu. vinyl is manufactured on classic black discs, and comes complete with the andres guzman designed artwork, inspired by the vintage ‘80s movie, ‘crocodile dundee.’ sean price was hip-hop’s gray hulk, a barbarian with the pen, with the sharpest of wits. a true brooklyn legend...rip!

nep was a loose multimedia collective formed in 1982 zagreb, ex-yugoslavia. the founder dejan krsic collaborated with various artists in a quest of re-thinking the stale concepts of art history, position of the author and the barriers between pop and elitist high culture. heavily influenced by walter benjamin and andy warhol in theory and brian eno and kraftwerk in music, krsic created nep as an umbrella term (meaning nova evropa) of diverse rule-breaking activities, covering graphic design, music, photography, video, news-media and theoretical work.

h-productions proudly presents >hide and seek< by cari lekebusch. this is the ninth release in the full color spectrum serie, that is aiming to result in 10 different colored vinyl 12inch. both tracks are maintaining a stripped down policy, solid sound pictures and simple arrangements - with no unnecessary events. giving the dj more freedom to manouvre. all tracks in the full spectrum series have been generated with analog equipment, and are all inspired by the various h-productions releases that came out around 1993-1998.

this is my best album for sure, says todd. we cant be exactly sure on that one, all three albums from todd bodine have been great. forms however, is perhaps the most complex and mature album that the berlin producer and dj has accomplished to date. and its also out with us! todd has worked at full speed over the last six months to bring us this fine piece of work. as a dj playing around the world and as a producer in the highest ranks of consistency, todd bodine has constantly developed as an artist. releases and remixes on respected labels, and collaborations with various artists have made him an internationally popular electronic musician. in 2007 he finally began to perform as a live act, and what club would better fit todds new live premiere than the panorama bar in berlin!? todd shows with forms, his innate knowledge of the two sides of electronic dance music. this is a meeting of peaktime euphoria with the relaxing bliss of the hazy morning light. a meeting of hypnotic natural rhythms and driving cut-up sounds. todd can impress you with dancefloor bombs and also with his sophisticated sound visions. the sound of detroit would probably be the best comparison.

roots vocalist barry brown has an inimitable style that has long made him a favourite of reggae enthusiasts. drawing from the popular phrasing of horace andy, but morphing it into his own delivery through the kind of wordless slurring that occasionally resembles the sound of a quacking duck, brown found his way into the jamaican music scene through the many amateur west kingston talent contests of the early 1970s, along with fellow aspiring talents such as johnnie clarke, sugar minott and the african brothers, and the mighty diamonds. he also honed his vocal skills on local west kingston sound systems such as tape tone, together with other young dancehall-oriented youth such as barrington levy, sammy dread, roy taylor and tristan palmer. there are still conflicting claims as to who was the first to record brown, with production veteran bunny ‘striker’ lee and sugar minott among the contenders, but in any case, during the late 1970s and early 1980s, he produced a range of captivating work for various producers, much of which is rightly coveted today. ‘ital rock’ appeared on barry’s 1983 lp i’m still waiting, issued by rocktone international, a spin-off of sugar minott’s black roots outfit, based in queens, new york (with a further branch in toronto), the b-side has dean fraser’s previously unreleased electrifying saxophone cut, rescued from dub plate obscurity by jah fingers.

respected parisian producer dj deep debuts on kerri chandler s kaoz theory with four rhythmic house tracks. one of the most important protagonists to emerge from the french house and techno scene, dj deep s status is unquestionable. at the helm of deeply rooted, the reputable label owner has signed and released numerous timeless cuts from the likes of ben klock, francois x, roman poncet, kerri chandler, and many more. meanwhile, his return to production in recent years has seen him appear on a variety of credible labels, such as rekids,tresor and l.i.e.s. inaugurating the release,thai fades in gently using subtle field recordings and organic drums before introducing piercing stabs and serene pads, making way for the firm kicks and open hats of tuesday record shopping in paris as soaring atmospherics and various intricate elements come into effect. the mesmerizing guardian is next, with its low-slung groove and compelling rhythm, until cavalier drums concludes the release by rolling out complex percussion from start to finish.
